Faculty champion: One teacher, counselor, or staff member willing to facilitate one 45-minute session per week for twelve weeks
Space and technology: A room suitable for group work with internet access and school-issued devices for students
Background checks: Coordination of the school’s standard background check process for all volunteer guides before student contact
Parent consent: Distribution and collection of signed consent forms for all participating students before the first session
Technology approval: Review and approval of AI tools through the school’s existing technology and acceptable use process
Supervision: The faculty champion is present for every session in its entirety. Students are never unsupervised.
Showcase venue: A space for the end-of-semester public showcase at week 12
Cost
The program is free to the school and to students. No payment to VIBE Afterschool or Juno Maps is required or solicited. Optional materials — AI tool subscriptions, showcase supplies, or printed handouts — may be funded by the school or through the VIBE Fund at the school’s discretion. Estimated optional cost: $200–$500 per cohort.
Student data and privacy
VIBE Afterschool does not collect, receive, or process individual student data. Any outcome data shared with VIBE is aggregate only (e.g., number of students enrolled, number of projects completed). The school retains full responsibility for student education records under FERPA and applicable state law. The school’s existing technology vendor agreements govern AI tool use.
Liability and supervision
The school is responsible for the safety and supervision of students on its premises, consistent with its obligations for any extracurricular program. VIBE provides a framework and resources; it does not employ, manage, or directly supervise any participant. Guide volunteers are recruited, screened, and managed by the school.
Open framework. VIBE Afterschool is published under CC BY 4.0. The school is free to adapt all materials, run future cohorts without this MOU, share the framework with other schools, and build on it however it sees fit. No exclusivity or ongoing relationship is implied or required.
Term and ending
This MOU covers the semester listed above. Either party may end participation at any time with written notice. There are no financial penalties or obligations upon ending. The MOU may be renewed by mutual agreement for future semesters.
